Jitka Píšová: Images of Dialogue

Dialogue doesn’t just begin when someone speaks. We’re already creating it with our expressions – what we don’t say, to whom we nod and what we whisper to ourselves in the meantime. These paintings collect gamblers, suited figures, masks and fleeting encounters around a single table, proving that what lies between two people is not just distance, but a whole drama playing out inside. People are constantly communicating: through their eyes, their shoulders, their silence and expressions that sometimes reveal more than was intended. Often, the liveliest conversation isn’t with the other, but takes place inside – between “yes,” “no,” and the space between them. Dialogue, then, is sometimes an encounter, sometimes a duel and sometimes a very polite tug-of-war over who will be the first to yield. At such moments, a single glance says more than enough.
