Calendars. 10 Years Without Štěpán Mikuláš Mareš

Štěpán Mikuláš Mareš was one of the most prominent South Bohemian artists of the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, whose work combined fine art with poetry, unbridled fantasy, and Dadaism. The exhibition in Protivín, where he spent his summer months every year, will present a world full of playful grotesque and distinctive humor, and will build upon the legacy of the author, whose original work is represented in a number of Czech and international collections.

His annual poetic calendars, on which the exhibition will focus and which he created mainly in the late period of his life, always differed completely from others and were a great success. He created the last one in 2015; the course of Štěpán Mikuláš Mareš's life ended a year later. The exhibition thus commemorates the 10th anniversary of his death.
