The Most Diligent Czech Man

On January 15th of this year, one hundred years passed since the death of Prof. August Sedláček, a significant figure in Czech historical science. A native of Mladá Vožice in the Tábor region (1843), he graduated in Písek (1863) and, after university studies, worked as a high school professor in Litomyšl, Rychnov nad Kněžnou, and especially in Tábor. In retirement, he returned to Písek, where he became the city archivist and museum director. Sedláček's lifelong work is the fifteen-volume History of Castles, Chateaux, and Fortified Settlements of the Kingdom of Bohemia. His historical works exceed 200 titles.

The incredible life story of this personality will be presented in an exhibition at the Prácheňské muzeum in Písek.
