Student Works Exhibition – Adaptation of the Stájový dvůr at Prague Castle

Jun 9 – Jun 25, 2026

Prague Castle, in collaboration with the ARCHIP university, presents an exhibition of ten semester projects by architecture students, focused on the potential future use of the historic Stájový dvůr, from June 9 to June 25, 2026, in the foyer of the Supreme Burgrave's lecture hall. Visitors will see architectural models and portfolios that represent various approaches to designing a modern visitor center in one of Europe's most significant historical complexes.

The projects were created under the guidance of architect and educator Zuzana Drahotová in cooperation with the Prague Castle Administration and reflect contemporary architectural thinking, working with historical context, and the needs of today's visitors. At ARCHIP, Zuzana Drahotová leads the Architectural Design studio, which focuses on conceptually driven architectural design, working with models, drawing, and seeking the meaning of architecture through space and detail.

Stájový dvůr as the assignment: a historical place in a new context The assignment for the semester projects was to explore the possibilities of adapting the complex of buildings in the Stájový dvůr area on U Prašného mostu street into a new visitor center for Prague Castle. The location, on one of the main access routes to the complex, offers the potential for creating a space that would not only provide visitors with entrance and information services but also facilities, a place for rest and orientation before or after visiting the Castle. Simultaneously, it can become a place that, thanks to its program content, can also appeal to locals.

The Stájový dvůr complex consists of several historical buildings with a rich construction history – for example, the gardener's house, a Renaissance house with a once-secret imperial corridor, or the former ball court, which over the centuries was transformed into a theater, stables, and garages. The layering of history and the variability of use became key themes of the students' designs.
