Tatra Museum

The Tatra Museum (Muzeum Tatrzańskie) in Zakopane was founded in 1888-89 by a society honouring physician and Tatra enthusiast Tytus Chałubiński. Its main building, designed by Franciszek Mączyński in the Zakopane style championed by Stanisław Witkiewicz, opened in 1922. The museum now runs eleven branches across the region, holding ethnographic, natural-history, art and historical collections on the culture of the Tatra highlands, and stages temporary exhibitions across its sites.
