Schwarzsee is many things at once: a natural space, a recreational area, an economic base, and an object of research. The special exhibition invites you to discover this unique habitat from different perspectives. From the colorful coexistence of humans, animals, and plants, to exciting scientific insights into moorland, glaciers, and climate history, to the impressive biodiversity in and around the lake. Historical photographs, plans, and objects tell of its tourist development since the 19th century, of sports, art, and grand visions — but also of agriculture, mining, fishing, and peat extraction. Finally, the current question of the Schwarzsee's future arises: How can the balancing act between use and nature conservation succeed? An exhibition about the value and change of an extraordinary natural and cultural space and the responsibility that humans have for it.
