Winter Sports and Summer Retreats

With Kitzbühel's connection to the Austrian railway network around 1870, summer tourism began in Kitzbühel. While the landscape was primarily a workplace for the farming population, it now became a place of recreation for urban tourists. The construction of the "Hotel Kitzbühel" in 1903 marked the beginning of Kitzbühel's development into a glamorous tourist metropolis.
